Foreign Affairs of House of Representatives confirm that the Constitutional Declaration guarantees the right to establish NGOs.
Pulbished on:Tripoli, March 23, 2023 (LANA) - The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the House of Representatives, “Youssef Al-Aqouri” and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Civil Society Commission, “Barika Baltamr,” affirmed that the constitutional declaration guarantees the right to establish civil associations, given that civil society institutions are considered one of the pillars of the transformation of the Democratic system, provided that there is a clear procedural framework that regulates its work in accordance with the law and the need to adhere to standards of financial transparency and consideration of the public interest.
This came during the meeting, yesterday evening, Wednesday, between Al-Aqouri and Baltamr in Benghazi, where they discussed the latest developments related to the file of civil society institutions.
During the meeting, the two sides renewed their call to all official bodies and activists to give priority to the common good and preserve the aspirations of our people to build a democratic country that respects the rule of law and opens the horizons of civil action to everyone.
According to the official Facebook page of the House of Representatives, the head of the Foreign Affairs Committee was briefed on the legal opinion issued by the General Department of Law of the Supreme Judicial Council regarding civil society organizations, pointing out that the committee is in the process of studying it.
In order to prevent confusion in the work of foreign non-governmental organizations, the Committee calls for the need to implement the current procedures followed by the Commission, with follow-up from the Foreign Affairs Committee in the House of Representatives and the competent authorities until the completion of defining the legal framework for the work of foreign non-governmental organizations from the House of Representatives.
During the meeting, Al-Aqouri listened to a summary of the Commission's unification efforts, stressing that the committee blesses these efforts and will have a positive impact on the work of civil society institutions, calling for the need to benefit from international expertise to build the capacities of local civil society institutions in terms of institutionalization and raise their capabilities to improve their performance.
