Tripoli, March 17, 2023 (LANA) - The US State Department spokesman, "Ned Price," said, "The initiative of the UN envoy in Libya, "Abdullah Batili," has the full support of the UN Security Council, providing Libyan leaders with the best opportunity to end the unrest and secure legitimacy through the election" .

In a tweet posted on his Twitter account today, Friday, the spokesman for US diplomacy urged "Libyan leaders to work with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General to build on progress and conclude an agreement for a stable and democratic future."

The statements of the US State Department spokesman were preceded by statements by Ambassador "Richard Norland" on Al-Jazeera Mubasher channel yesterday, Thursday, in which he said, "The initiative of the UN envoy came after in-depth consultations with Libyan politicians and international parties," pointing out that "it is based on mobilizing international efforts and bringing together the actors to hold elections."

The US envoy stressed the importance of reaching agreement on a constitutional basis for holding elections, "the results of which are respected by the winner and the losers," stressing that "there is no external solution that can be imposed on the Libyans," saying, "The Libyan people alone have the right to determine the criteria for running in the presidential elections."
