Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health discusses in Addis Ababa ways to enhance joint cooperation with a number of AU countries.

Addis Ababa 19 February 2023 (Lana)The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for hospitals affairs, Saed Al-Deen Abdul-Wakeel, participated in the high-level African-Ministerial Forum, which was held on the sidelines of the 42nd regular session of the Executive Council of the African Union "AU", at the headquarters of the AU in Addis Ababa, with the participation of ministers of health in the AU countries.

The Ministry of Health stated on its SMS page that Abdul-Wakeel with his accompanying delegation, held a number of meetings with ministers of health in Arab and African countries, to discuss joint cooperation and benefit from the AU capabilities to serve the health sector in Libya, especially in aspects of public health, medicines, and disease control.

In addition to the African health ministers, the presidents of South Africa, Rwanda, Sierra Leone and Ethiopia, and the Director-General of the World Health Organization, participated in the forum.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mussa Faki, called on member states, to strengthen their cooperation in order to provide reliable health services and to ensure food self-sufficiency on the continent.

This came in his remark during the session , in the presence of the foreign ministers of the member states.

" The Disease Control Centers and the recently established African Medicines Agency are expected to play key roles in recognizing the continent's challenges in terms of health and nutrition, as well as ending its dependence on foreign aid," he said.

" Despite many challenges, the continent is showing great signs of resilience, and given the various crises around the world over the past years, the AU has given a great deal of priority to addressing challenges in the area of health and nutrition on the continent," he added.
