Boujnah reveals billions allocated for development of south

Tripoli, 9 January, 2023 (LANA) - Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Acting Minister of Health, Ramadan Boujnah, has revealed that the budget estimated at (16) billion dinars is allocated for development in the Libyan south, including (5) billion dinars for electricity and (900) million for the implementation of the Ubari road, Ghats, (500) million dinars for sanitation for the southern region, and (100) million dinars to start implementing the Ubari –Sabha- Al-Qatroun road project, in addition to other agricultural roads in many municipalities.

Boujnah said in a speech during a meeting with the mayors of the southern municipalities, Monday, that between 200 and 300 million dinars will be allocated for health and education, in addition to allocating a budget for municipalities to implement development projects in each municipality in preparation for decentralization.

He explained that mayors know more than others the needs of their municipalities, and therefore when announcing the granting of budgets to municipalities, citizens will follow up on what has been accomplished on the ground.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health in charge, "Ramadan Abu Jinnah," discussed yesterday in Tripoli during a broad meeting with undersecretaries and mayors of southern municipalities the challenges and obstacles facing the Libyan southern regions and projects under implementation and those suspended in the southern region, and discussed with them how to complete them and find mechanisms to resume work in the southern region. These projects will be implemented during the year 2023, which will contribute to accelerating infrastructure projects and improving the level of services provided to citizens in the southern regions of Libya, including reforming the health and education sectors in these regions.

During the meeting, the mayors of the southern region demanded clarification of the mechanism and criteria through which budgets are allocated to municipalities, stressing the importance of allocating sufficient funds to municipalities so that they can provide the best services to citizens.

  The meeting was attended by mayors of municipalities and chairmen of the muncipal councils of (Wadi Al-Bawanis - Brak - Al-Qardah - Idri - Sebha - Ubari - Al-Ghuraifa - Al-Sharqiya - Traghen - Wadi Ataba - Al-Jufra - Burqan - Tijrhi - Al-Baraka - Zuweila - Ghat - Murzuq - Zalah).
