In a statement, a copy of which was received by Lana, the Association renewed its strong condemnation and denunciation of these attacks, which would affect the prestige of the state and social peace.
It reaffirmed its solidarity with all municipal councils in various parts of Libya in confronting acts of incitement and targeting the headquarters of municipal councils and their affiliates, exposing Mayors and members of municipal councils to threats, intimidations, and sometimes assassinations.
The Association considered that the repeated attacks on mayors, members and headquarters of the municipal councils represent danger to the work of the municipal councils, and threatening the future of the local administration system and the achievements made in the path of decentralization.
In its statement, the Association appealed to the Prime Minister and Ministries of Local Government and the Interior to secure headquarters of the municipal councils and their affiliated bodies, and to provide legal immunity and security protection for the mayors and members of the municipal councils so that they can carry out their work in an appropriate environment.
They stressed the need for the Ministry of Interior to carry out its tasks by speeding up the necessary measures, by prosecuting the perpetrators, apprehending them, and bringing them to justice in order to build a state of law and institutions.
