Italian Foreign Minister: Libya is a strategic country and we hope to hold elections there as soon as possible.

Rome, December 27, 2022 (LANA) - The Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, expressed his country's hope to hold elections in Libya as soon as possible.

Tajani said in an interview with the newspaper (La Stampa) that Libya is a strategic country for Italy and for many reasons, according to what was published by the Italian news agency (AKI).

The Italian official confirmed that he had invited the UN envoy to Libya, Abdullah Batelli, to Rome, saying that Italy shares Batelli's hope that elections will be held soon to overcome the crisis there.

In response to a question whether he or the Prime Minister, "Giorgia Meloni," are planning to visit Libya, "Tajani" confirmed that the visit will take place, but he stipulated that there be a clear path leading to the elections.
