National Council for Libyan Women release statement on extradition of Abu Ajila Al-Marimi

Benghazi, 22 December, 2022 (LANA) President of the National Council for Libyan Women, Dr. Fawzia Al-Sharif, has issued a statement of denunciation regarding the extradition of the Libyan citizen, Abu Ajila Masoud Al-Marimi.

The statement stated “We, ladies of the National Council for Libyan Women, administration and members, condemn and denounce the abduction of the Libyan citizen Abu Ajila al-Marimi from his home in the cover of darkness, in a horrific way, and with a violent attack in front of his wife and young grandchildren, indifferent to the harm that befell his wife and grandchildren, especially that Such disgraceful behavior is considered a flagrant attack on women, who are the main pillar, and in order to defend their rights, our esteemed council was formed, and accordingly we will not be satisfied and will not accept at all such behaviors that expose Libyan women to humiliation, and we will demand accountability for all those who sought to harm the dignity of a woman from Ladies of our beloved country.’

The statement stated that the extradition of any citizen who holds Libyan nationality is contrary to the provisions of Libyan law and is a violation of Libyan sovereignty, which does not affect a specific person, but extends its impact to an entire people.

The statement issued by the President of the National Council for Libyan Women clarified that the Lockerbie case file has been closed since 2008 according to Law 110/30 of 2008, which was passed by Congress in Article 1, Paragraph 2, 3, which states that (the Libyan property and individuals involved in the Lockerbie case are safe from detention or any other judicial proceeding), and based on a presidential decree issued by the President of the United States of America at the time and the content thereof (the complete termination of any future claims, and the closure of any cases opened by the families of the victims, whether before the local or foreign courts), then we demand - in accordance with the agreements concluded between the two countries - the states The United Nations to immediately release the citizen Bou Ajila Al-Marimi  to  return to Libyan territory.

In the statement, they called on the head of the National Council for Libyan Women to open an investigation with everyone involved in his arrest and extradition, as an act amounting to his accusation of high treason.

The statement further called on the United Nations, the Security Council, the League of Arab States and all international organizations to condemn such an act that violates all laws, customs, and international agreements.

In its statement, the National Council for Libyan Women - with its legal department, confirmed its support for the Libyan citizen, Bouajila Masoud Al-Marimi, and that it is fully prepared to provide an integrated team to defend him before the judiciary and prove his innocence with all evidence and by all legitimate means of defense.
