Speaker of House of Representatives receives the UN Envoy to Libya Abdullah Bathily.
Pulbished on:Al Gubba, 18 October 2022 (Lana) Speaker of the House of Representatives Ageela Saleh received here on Monday, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya Abdoulaye Bathily.
The spokesman for the House of Representatives said in a statement that the meeting discussed the situation in Libya in general and ways to reach an end to the current crisis and holding of elections as soon as possible.
In early September, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appointed Senegalese diplomat Abdoulaye Bathily as the UN envoy to Libya, succeeding former Slovak Envoy Jan Kubic, who resigned abruptly in November 2021, and the post remained vacant because the Security Council, whose approval is necessary, rejected several proposals for names submitted by the secretary-general.
Bathily began his work in Libya last week with a series of meetings he held in Tripoli with the President of the Presidential Council, Mohammed Al Mnedfi, his deputy Abdullah Al-Lafi and the Head of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Al Dabaiba, which centered on the need to find a solution to settle the crisis in Libya.
