Libya and Turkey sign memorandums of understanding in the field of oil and gas energy.

  Tripoli, 3 October 2022 (Lana) The two memorandums of understanding on oil and gas signed on Monday in Tripoli between Libya and Turkey are in the interest of the two countries and will contribute to solving the oil and gas crisis in the world, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity Najla Al-Mangoush said.

Al-Mangoush explained in the joint press conference with her Turkish counterpart Cavusoglu in Tripoli, that the maritime agreement signed between the two countries earlier needs to be registered at the United Nations, and that it was not addressed in today's meetings, stressing that such agreements are important for Libya at this stage, especially with reliance on the large balance of trade and economic exchange between Libya and Turkey.

 On holding of elections in Libya, Al Mangoush said "we have understood the need to coordinate efforts to support international efforts to support the map drawn up, and to mobilize support for it in order to ensure the achievement of its goal and follow important steps, including the commitment of legislative bodies to finish the points of contention in the constitutional basis.

Al-Mangoush pointed out that if the constitutional basis is agreed, the parliament will issue a law to conduct the elections and the Election Commission will be tasked with preparing a timetable that includes a vision of the electoral process and the government is committed to supporting it.

Al Mangoush called on the international community to carry out its duties towards Libya more seriously and more consciously, and to deal very firmly with anyone who tries to obstruct the democratic process in Libya.

On his part the Turkish Foreign Minister stressed the importance of signing the two memorandums of understanding between the two countries which he said were important to maintain the stability and security of Libya, pointing out that there are consultations and discussions taking place between the two countries to sign other memorandums of understanding later.

The Turkish Minister stressed importance of previously signed maritime memorandum of understanding that it entered into force and said ‘we have informed the United Nations of it because it concerns Libya and Turkey.’

The Turkish Minister reiterated that solutions in Libya come through dialogue, calling on the House of Representatives and the High Council of State to complete the dialogue to reach a constitutional base.

 On the other hand, Cavusoglu revealed the imminent opening of Turkey's consulate in Benghazi, and a visit by the friendship group in the Turkish National Assembly to Libya to communicate with all parties and with the House of Representatives.

  The memorandums were signed by Foreign Minister Najla Al Mangoush and Cavusoglu and Economy and Trade Minister Mohamed Al Haweij and on the Turkish side by Energy and Natural Resources Minister Fatih Donmaz.
