Libya chairs the 158th session of the Arab League Council at the level of permanent delegates.

Cairo, September 4, 2022 (LANA) - Libya's permanent representative to the League of Arab States, Abdel Muttalib Thabet, expressed Libya's appreciation for the Arab League's keenness to preside over Libya for the work of the 158th session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, despite the circumstances that Libya is going through.

This came in a speech by Libya's delegate to the Arab League during Libya's presidency of the 158th session of the League's Council at the ministerial level, succeeding Lebanon, which started on Sunday at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo.

Libya's delegate to the Arab League expressed his hope that Libya's presidency of this session would be an appropriate opportunity to support and strengthen the role of the League of Arab States in order to find a comprehensive and realistic political settlement of the Libyan crisis, in harmony with the resolutions of international legitimacy, based on comprehensive national dialogue as the only way to reach consensus on a constitutional path. To hold presidential and parliamentary elections, to reach a state of permanent stability in Libya, which is the goal of all the Arab brothers.

He said that we will work, through the umbrella of the League of Arab States, to pay attention to all other important issues, the subject of joint Arab action, on top of which is the Palestinian cause, the cause of all Arabs. Its independent state, with Jerusalem as its capital.

Ambassador Abdul Muttalib Thabet added, “The exceptional and difficult circumstances the world is going through today, and the accelerating events it is witnessing, may lead to the expansion of some hotbeds of conflict. The international arena, and guarantees all rights and legal positions due to all member states.

Lebanon's delegate to the League of Arab States, Ambassador Ali Al-Halabi, at the opening of the 158th session, handed over the presidency to Libya's permanent representative to the League of Arab States, Ambassador Abdel-Muttalib Thabet.

It is worth noting that the State of Libya presided over the work of the 158th session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the level of permanent delegates, after an absence from its presidency since 2013.
