The Electoral Commission concludes the training program on techniques for verifying fake news and monitoring mechanisms in the media.

Tripoli, July 5, 2022 (LANA) - The activities of the training program on techniques for verifying false news and monitoring mechanisms in the media, which was organized by the High National Elections Commission in cooperation with the American Association of Lawyers (ABA), concluded this evening, Tuesday, at the May 2 Martyrs’ Hall in the commission’s media center.

Awareness coordinators in electoral administration offices from various cities of Libya participated in this training program with the aim of enhancing the readiness of the Commission for the upcoming elections, and to ensure that they are conducted in accordance with the highest professional and international standards.

During the training program, the awareness coordinators of the electoral administration offices in Libya and the staff of the Awareness Department of the Commission were trained on how to verify false news, monitor and respond to hate speech, in addition to monitoring professional imbalances during the media coverage period for electoral campaigns.

The training program included practical workshops that presented videos, audio and fake news.

In his speech at the closing ceremony, the Director General of the Commission, Yahya Al-Jadeed, expressed his thanks to the Commission's partners, represented by the American Association of Lawyers (ABA), and the experts from the State of Tunisia who are supervising the program.

   (Al-Jadeed) stressed that the Commission pays great attention to the Department of Communication and Awareness and the Awareness Coordinators in all the electoral management offices, as women who reflect the performance of the Commission by following up on the activities and programs that it establishes through its departments and in cooperation with its partners.

He also explained that the Commission is working to implement all programmed tasks according to the continuous time plan until the end of the year.
