Pulbished on:Tripoli, 3 July 2022(Lana) UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has appealed to protesters in Libya, demanding overthrow of all political bodies, to avoid any violence.
A statement issued by UN Secretary-General Spokesman Stephane Dujarric's on Sunday called on security forces to exercise maximum restraint, while stressing the right to peaceful demonstrations.
He stressed that the United Nations and The Secretary-General's Special Adviser Stephanie Williams were there to provide good offices and mediation between the parties to find a way out of the political stalemate by organizing elections on a solid constitutional framework at the earliest opportunity.
The Secretary-General urged all actors to refrain from any actions that would destabilize the country and to stand side by side to overcome political stalemate and division that adversely affects the country's economy.
The statement noted that the recent United Nations-sponsored Cairo and Geneva meetings on consensus on a constitutional framework for organizing elections had made significant progress that can be built upon.
