UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs describes meetings of constitutional track as a correct step towards elections in Libya.
Pulbished on:New York 28 June 2022 (Lana) United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary Di Carlo described the meetings of the Libyan constitutional track ,which were held recently in Cairo as a correct step towards holding the elections in Libya, considering that this entitlement is the only way to settle disagreements related to legitimacy of Libyan institutions.
Di Carlo encouraged in her to the international security council ,Monday evening ,heads of the parliament and the High Council of State to seize this opportunity and push towards consensus on the constitutional framework to holding elections ,expressing her hope that the meeting of Geneva today between Ageela Saleh and Al-Mishri may contribute to reach agreement between the Libyan parties.
Di Carlo confirmed that the UN is ready to facilitate dialogue between heads of the GNU Abdul-Hamid Al-Dabiba and the Prime Minister of the government assigned by the Parliament Fathi Pashagha ,noting that Libya had made a remarkable progress towards building a more inclusive community ,and the UN priority is to return to the electoral process on a base of a sound constitutional basis.
Di Carlo warned of the partial closure of the oil ,indicating that its continuation had caused Libya to lose more than 3 billion dollars ,pointing out that suspension of oil revenues transfer will negatively impact the ability of the Government to pay salaries and provide the basic needs for the citizens.
