The commander of the operation, "IRINI", rules out that Libyan oil smuggling operations will stop soon.
Pulbished on:Rome, April 29, 2022 (LANA) - The commander of the European operation in the Mediterranean "IRINI" Stefano Torchetto ruled out stopping oil smuggling operations in Libya "soon", according to the Italian Nova news agency.
Nova quoted Torchetto as saying during a panel discussion entitled "Combating Illicit Trade in the Central Mediterranean, the Sahel and the Gulf of Guinea", organized by IRINI, with the European Union representative for the Sahel region, Emanuela del Rey, on Thursday. "It is expected that oil smuggling will not stop in Libya anytime soon’’.
He stressed that the continued presence of criminal organizations involved in illegal trade and profit expectations makes it expected that the smuggling of Libyan oil will not stop in the near term, pointing to the growth of this phenomenon with the exacerbation of instability in the wake of the civil war that Libya witnessed in 2011, according to what was published by the Italian Nova News Agency.
