Tripoli, April 20, 2022 (LANA) - US Ambassador Richard Norland expressed his concern about the interruption of half of Libyan oil production, explaining that the forced and prolonged disruptions in oil production lead to creating difficult conditions for the Libyan people, including power cuts and water supply problems. fuel shortages, and the destruction of oil infrastructure, threatening the future of the Libyan energy sector and its ability to continue generating revenue for it.

This came during a call by Ambassador Norland and Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Treasury Eric Mayer with the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Siddiq Al-Kabeer, to discuss joint efforts to enhance transparency in the Central Bank of Libya, especially with regard to public spending.

Norland, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Treasury, urged the Central Bank of Libya to protect Libya's oil revenues from misappropriation to rebuild confidence in the institution and contribute to stability.

During this call, participants reiterated the critical importance of providing financial support to the operations of the National Oil Corporation, even as discussions continued in an effort to reach broad agreement on other government expenditures.

The US ambassador stressed that the Libyan people deserve to receive salaries and support on a regular basis, especially during the blessed month of Ramadan, and to face the rise in prices as a result of Russia's unjustified war on Ukraine, and they also deserve to receive reliable public services.
