Tripoli, April 19, 2022 (LANA) The European Union Mission to Libya has expressed its support for the return of the looted artifacts to their original country of Libya, foremost of which is the head of the veiled lady, which dates back to the year 350 BC.

The mission said that the return of these valuable statues comes through a joint effort between the Libyan government and the countries of the world.

The Antiquities Authority had been able to retrieve four artifacts of the heads of funerary statues belonging to the province of Cyrene, in addition to a group of pottery jars dating back to the Germanic civilization.

On this occasion, a ceremony was held, attended by the Head of the Antiquities Authority, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Organizational Affairs, the Head of the Libyan State Funds Recovery Office and the Recovered Assets Management, and the Head of the Tourism Police and Antiquities Protection Authority and the Director of the United Nations Regional Institute for Crime and Justice Research,

The return of these pieces came thanks to a joint cooperation between the cultural, security and judicial institutions in the two countries, based on the memorandum of understanding related to imposing import restrictions on types of archaeological and ethnological materials owned by the Libyan state, signed in 2018.
