Prosecutors are investigating import of shipment of 300 tons of sugar unfit for consumption.

Misrata, 5 April 2022 (Lana) - The Public Prosecutor's Office on Monday opened an investigation into a shipment of 300 tons of sugar unsuitable for human consumption imported through the port of Misrata in February.

The Attorney General's Office said that the Anti-Corruption Crimes Act of the West Misrata Court of First Instance was investigating the circumstances surrounding completion of the procedures for the supply of the shipment, which do not meet the requirements of quality and the validity for human consumption.

The office explained that investigations proved that a crime of providing false documents was committed and deliberately concealed the decision rejecting the shipment issued by the Tunisian authorities as a result of the lack of quality that allows human consumption of the substance. The public prosecutor ordered that the ship's captain and assistant be remanded in custody pending further investigation.
