The US State Department's Counter-Terrorism Office is training about 350 Libyans on airport security.

Washington, April 4, 2022 (LANA) - Since 2018, the Office of Counter-Terrorism of the US State Department has launched a program to assist Libya in confronting threats arising from the security vacuum, which has led to the creation of weaknesses that may help terrorists and other malicious actors exploit them to carry out their criminal acts through the ports.

A blog on the US State Department's website stated via the International Information Network that (this program is to specifically assist Libya in preventing terrorists and illegal materials from crossing through Libya and reaching American shores, as it lays a critical foundation for the re-establishment of a US diplomatic mission in the country and the reopening of Libya to global travel).

Ayhan Avila, Director of the Counter-Terrorism Office Program, said that the Foreign Ministry’s Counter-Terrorism Office launched the Libya Aviation and Airport Security Program in 2018, which was aimed at helping “Libyan partners” in facing security threats, and that the program focuses on airport inspectors, supervisors and managers from Five international airports across the three regions of Libya, to identify and intercept terrorist activity in line with international standards)

Avila indicated that the program has benefited from 350 delegates since its inception, including managers, supervisors, monitors, trainers, auditors, and maintenance engineers. Examination of passengers according to international standards and best practices.
