At a joint press conference Egypt demands an end to foreign interventions in Libya, Qatar supports political process up to free elections that will enable Libyans choose their new leaders.
Pulbished on:Cairo, 29 March 2022 (Lana) Egypt has called for an end to all foreign interventions in Libya and a timetable for the transition period, while Qatar has stressed that it does not want any division that would lead to military action in Libya.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri and his Qatari Counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman made the remarks at a joint press conference held at the end of their talks at the Foreign Ministry in Cairo on Monday.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister told reporters: "We demand an end to foreign interventions in Libya, and a commitment to a timetable for the transition period," calling on all Libyan parties to achieve "consensus to reach political solutions away from the military conflict"
During the press conference, Shukri stressed that Egypt "communicates with all Libyan parties and wants to solve problems through dialogue, not through military conflict."
For his part, the Qatari Foreign Minister stressed that his country does not want "any division that could lead to military action in Libya", wishing consensus among the Libyan brothers.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman reiterated Qatar's support for the political process in Libya and all the outcomes of the Geneva, Berlin and Paris accords, leading to free elections that would enable Libyans to choose their new leaders.
