Tunisia, March 27, 2022 - The Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations on Libya, "Stephanie Williams," said that the Libyans want to end a decade of violence and elect a government, and do not show a desire to revive the conflict again.

"The majority of Libyans want to end 11 years of chaos, divisions and war in a peaceful way by going to the polls," the UN adviser said in an interview with Agence France-Presse on Saturday evening.

"There is a crisis at the level of the executive authority and there is a political struggle over who will take power, but this can be overcome," she added.

She also added that she had recently met with thousands of Libyans from all over the country during the past months, and concluded that "there is no desire to return to a large-scale conflict in Libya."

And "Williams" considered that the political maneuvers carried out by the various parties in an attempt to obstruct the elections revealed "a great separation between the political class and the electoral body."

Regarding the postponement of the elections, Williams said that this represented a "great disappointment" for Libyans, especially after about 2.8 million of them registered for the elections following a rare period of optimism after the ceasefire decision in October 2020.
