Tripoli, 6 March 2022 (Lana) U.S. Ambassador and Special Envoy to Libya Richard Norland revealed that in the context of ongoing political tensions in Libya, he reached out to Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Al Dbaiba and Prime Minister-designate Fathi Pashagha and encouraged them to consider ways, in which the country's affairs could be managed at a time when efforts, facilitated by the United Nations, are being made to quickly restore momentum toward Libya's parliamentary and presidential elections.
"I am confident that both leaders want to avoid an escalation of violence, I am encouraged to hear their mutual commitment to hold elections as soon as possible, decisions that only Libyans can make, but they have our full support for peaceful solutions," Ambassador Norland said in a tweet posted on the U.S. Embassy SMS page.
