Williams proposes the formation of a joint House and State committee to establish a consensual constitutional rule.
Pulbished on:Tripoli, March 4, 2022 (LANA) - Today, Friday, the Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Libya, Stephanie Williams, sent a letter to both Presidents of the House of Representatives and the State, proposing the formation of a joint committee from the two sides to work on establishing a consensual constitutional basis.
Williams said in the text of her message, which she published via a series of tweets on Twitter, that the work of the committee will be under the auspices of the United Nations, within 14 days, starting on March 15, at a place to be determined after the approval of the two councils.
According to Williams' proposal, this committee consists of six members of the House of Representatives and the same from the Supreme Council of State, stressing once again the fundamental importance of maintaining security and stability and refraining from all acts of escalation, intimidation, kidnapping, provocation and violence.
"The solution to the Libyan crisis is not in the formation of competing administrations and permanent transitional stages," she said, stressing the need for Libyans to agree on a consensual way forward that prioritizes preserving the country's unity and stability.
She concluded her message by saying, "I await a quick response from both houses to this proposal, and I reiterate the responsibility of the Libyan institutions to show good faith in working and engaging constructively together to move towards elections for the 2.8 million Libyans who registered to vote in the presidential and parliamentary elections."
