 Tripoli, 3 March 2022 (Lana) The Head of EU Mission in Libya Jose Sabadell has announced EU support for UN Secretary-General Special Adviser on Libya Stephanie Williams' initiative to lay a constitutional basis for moving the country to elections as soon as possible.

In a tweet, Ambassador Sabadell said: "We affirm our full support for UNSMIL and the initiative of Secretary-General Adviser Stephanie Williams to maintain peace and unity in Libya and call on all actors to maintain stability."

Secretary-General Stephanie Williams reiterated the fundamental importance of maintaining security, stability and unity, and refraining from acts of escalation, provocation and violence).

She also tweeted today: "I am here to support the electoral process and the aspirations of 2.8 million Libyans, I will address letters to the House of Representatives and the High Council of State.’
