Head of GNU Government renews commitment to elections and rejection of extension and transition.
Pulbished on:Tripoli, 27 February 2022 (Lana) The Head of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Al Dbeiba, reiterated his commitment to holding parliamentary elections in June, his rejection of the extension, the transitions and the survival of political bodies, including the Government of National Unity.
In a speech at the Popular Movement Gathering to Support the Elections held here on Sunday under the slogan "No to extension", Al Dbeiba accused Parliament, which he described as a hijacked, of pushing the country into a dark tunnel over the past years because of their political maneuvers aimed at remaining in power, and of disrupting the draft constitution submitted by the Constituent Assembly since 2017 and depriving the people of their right to referendum on the draft constitution.
"We are tired of all these transitional stages and the sustained faces in power, they must leave and we will not accept the extension," he said, thanking the members of the High Council of State who rejected the extension and listened to the voice of the people supporting the elections and not extending them.
Al-Dabiba explained that the current phase led by the Presidential Council and the Government of National Unity will end next June based on the roadmap approved by the Forum for Political Dialogue. He denounced accusation by the House of Representatives of the Government as the force majeure. In his speech to the Popular Movement Forum, Al-Dbeiba stressed that it is not possible to allow the continuation of what he described as this absurdity, calling for the opening of the constitutional chamber of the Supreme Court, considering that closing it is a crime against the Libyan people.
