GNA Minister of Economy and Trade says Libya's wheat reserves enough for more than a year and warns against speculators trying to create chaos for gains.
Pulbished on:Tripoli, 27 February 2022 (Lana) Libya’s wheat reserves are sufficient for more than a year as the existing stock is more than 400,000 tons and contracts will be implemented by about 500,000 tons, the Government of National Unity Minister of Economy and Trade Mohammed Al-Haweij said.
"The current crisis in Ukraine has no impact on the country, as Libya imports only 20 percent of its needs annually from Ukraine, while consuming one million tons of wheat a year," Al Heweij told reporters. He said Libya's stock of soft wheat is enough for more than six months and there will be no crisis in flour and Libya has alternatives and other markets to import wheat, and barley.
Al-Haweij warned against speculators trying to create chaos for gains.
