Tantoush: The unified salary law is under study and within weeks it will be presented to Parliament

Tripoli, February 21, 2022 (LANA) - The Chairman of the Finance Committee in the House of Representatives, Omar Tantoush, said that the proposal for the unified salary law is still being studied by technicians and specialists from the economic development, economic research and general planning bodies.

In a press statement, Tantoush indicated that during this week or the following, this law will be presented to the House of Representatives, stressing that the reason for the delay in presenting it is to obtain a law that is in line with reality and is not subject to change or criticism.

He explained that the Finance Committee of the House of Representatives is working on preparing a unified law that includes parties of a special nature and parties outside the classification that need disbursement.

Tantoush said that the country has a single resource, which is oil, and we must find alternatives to cover in the absence of oil revenues that guarantee the maintenance of the price of the Libyan dinar.

He also added that the committee is also studying how to help other sectors to collect public revenue, revitalize the private sector, and find a mechanism to help the private sector absorb some employment.

He pointed out that the other problem facing us is career expansion. The number of public sector employees last year was one million and 800 thousand employees at the beginning of preparing the unified salary law, and now we have two million and 300 thousand, i.e. an increase of half a million employees, indicating that oil revenues will not This expansion due to ill-considered appointments is sufficient.

The Chairman of the Finance Committee of the House of Representatives confirmed that the law is nearing completion, welcoming at the same time all the opinions of financial and economic experts before its approval.
