The Ministry of Planning participates in the Arab Week for Sustainable Development in Cairo.
Pulbished on:Tripoli, February 19, 2022 (LANA) - The Ministry of Planning participated in the activities of the Arab Week for Sustainable Development, which was organized by the League of Arab States, in the presence of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Planning for Sustainable Development "Nuri Al-Shater", as part of the efforts made to promote sustainable development goals in the Arab region under the slogan "Together for sustainable recovery", and in order to deepen the common visions of Arab countries and international partners on the programs, procedures and plans taken to achieve the goals and objectives of sustainable development in the Arab world.
The Chairman of the Sustainable Development Committee in Libya and a member of the Arab Committee for Sustainable Development in the League of Arab States, "Al-Taher Abul-Hassan" chaired the specialized session on coordination between climate agreements, namely the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan, the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Prevention, which aims to launch methodology consultations in the Arab region among various stakeholders on reviewing and evaluating the three global frameworks, and proposing the necessary measures to accelerate progress towards achieving them by 2030.
Abul-Hassan referred to the negative effects of climate change on the settlement of the sustainable development plan in the Arab countries and to the further complication of the situation due to the global crisis represented by the (Covid 19 pandemic), and he also praised Libya’s endeavor, since its accession to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, to achieve a number of measures that ensure adaptation to climate changes, and address the potential impacts of climate change at the national, regional and international levels, and take this into account when approving national policies, which leads to reducing the negative impact of the climate change problem on development.
During the Arab Sustainable Development Week, the Arab Network for Science and Technology for Sustainable Development was launched, and the Arab Sustainability Initiative, as well as the Regional Initiative for Climate Interdependence, were launched, while the League of Arab States adopted the launch of the Arab Initiative to End Hunger.
