The US Embassy supports Guterres' call regarding reconciliation, stability and elections in Libya.

Tripoli, February 12, 2022 (LANA) - The United States Embassy in Libya announced, Friday, its support for what was stated in the statement of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, "Antonio Guterres" regarding consensus, stability and elections in Libya.

In a tweet posted on its account on the “Twitter” website, commenting on what the official spokesman for the United Nations, Stephan Dujarric, said Friday, that “UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres closely followed the situation in Libya, where he was informed of the vote that took place on Thursday in the Council of Representatives, in consultation with the State Council to adopt the constitutional amendment, were also informed of the House of Representatives’ vote to appoint Fathi Bashagha as a new Prime Minister.

The Secretary-General, according to the statement issued by the UN mission, called on all parties and institutions to continue to ensure that such critical decisions are taken in a transparent and consensual manner.

The Secretary-General also called on “all parties to continue to maintain stability in Libya as a first priority,” reminding “all institutions of the primary goal of holding national elections as quickly as possible in order to ensure respect for the political will of the 2.8 million Libyan citizens who have registered to vote.”
