Algiers, 3 January 2022 (Lana) President and General Director of Algeria's National Oil and Gas Group (Sonatrach) Tawfiq Hakkar revealed on Sunday that the company is preparing to resume its stalled oil projects in Libya, APS reported.

Hakkar said in an interview with Algeria International Channel (L24) that the company is working with its partners in Libya, to create conditions for return to Libya, to ensure security and safety of workers and equipment, adding that visits will be organized before the end of February to negotiate the return of Sonatrach to Libya.

In an interview on Sunday, Hakar added that Sonatrach plans to invest an estimated $40 billion in the energy sector between 2022 and 2026.

Hakkar said the largest share of these investments will be directed to exploration and production, in order to maintain national production capacities. About 95 percent of Algeria's foreign revenue comes from oil and gas sales.

"We have made significant investments in oil and gas exploration and will not leave these explorations undeveloped, and in 2021, Sonatrach's oil and gas exports amounted to more than $34.5 billion, up 70 percent from the previous year," he said.
