House Foreign Affairs Committee Denounces British interference in Libya's internal affairs.
Pulbished on:Tobruk, 26 December 2021 (Lana) The House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee has denounced a statement issued by the UK Embassy in Libya, in which it confirmed its support for the Government of National Unity until the date of the elections and that it did not recognize any parallel bodies until then.
The parliamentary Committee described the British statement as an unacceptable interference in Libya's internal affairs, expressing surprise that the statement came in the context of congratulating the Libyan people on the anniversary of Independence Day.
The Committee considered the statement in violation of diplomatic norms and was a cause for popular discontent throughout the country, indicating that the Libyan people were the decision makers in the affairs of their country through the official institutions that represented them.
The Foreign Affairs Committee confirmed the house's keenness to meet the aspirations of the Libyan people to hold presidential and legislative elections as soon as possible, and to resolve all obstacles facing this. The statement also stressed that choosing a new government or retaining the current government is for the House, and everyone must respect the rules of democratic governance.
The committee called on everyone to contribute to creating conditions for presidential and legislative elections by avoiding media escalation, creating internal differences and sedition as the House of Representatives seeks to achieve as large as possible domestic and international consensus.
