Lavrov: I have no problem with postponing elections or setting another date for them.

Cairo, 15 December 2021 (Lana) Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the priority for his country with regard to the Libyan elections scheduled for this month, should not be the official compliance with the deadline, rather the objective preparation for the elections.

What concerns us is the objective aspect of the elections, and I hope that everyone will be able to participate, by creating the conditions for representatives of all Libyan political forces, and re recognizing of the results by all these parties, Lavrov said.

I do not find it problematic to postpone or redefine another election date, provided that this item is respected, he told the Egyptian "Ten TV' on Tuesday. Russia contributed to international efforts to support the settlement in Libya for many years, and our country has been engaged in many international formats since the adoption of the Libyan political agreement in Sakhirat in December 2015, and then participated in conferences of Paris, Palermo and Berlin, during which joint principles were formulated but not translated into actions, Lavarov said.

Asked if he had a specific position on any of the candidates? Lavrov replied: "I hope that everyone will be able to participate, and I strongly recommend that the Americans and Europeans stop trying to determine the fate of another country, let alone the Libyan people, and I say, I will always say let the Libyans decide their own destiny."
