New York, 7 December 2021 (Lana) UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said Stephanie Williams, a US diplomat, will begin her work from Tripoli within days, as a special adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Libya.
The appointment of Williams as special adviser ensures that there is a UN leadership during the very delicate month of December, Dujarric was quoted by the French news agency AFP as saying.
Williams will lead efforts to engage in good offices, mediation and communication with Libyan, regional and international stakeholders, to follow up on the implementation of the Libyan dialogue tracks, according to a statement issued by the UN Secretary General spokesman's office.
