Attorney General looks into work of committee entrusted with investigation into charges against persons arrested by Deterrence Agency.
Pulbished on:Tripoli, 6 December, 2021 (Lana) – Attorney General, Al-Siddiq Al-Sour discussed with members of the Public Prosecution the work of the committee entrusted with conducting investigations into the charges against persons arrested by the Deterrence Agency on Combating Organized Crime and terrorism. During the meeting, the Attorney General was briefed on the committee's work progress and developments, and reviewed the statistics of cases referred to the Public Prosecution by the Deterrence Agency to combat organized crime and terrorism during the last four years. The meeting dealt with the obstacles that prevented the completion of investigations, in particular the outcome of the cases brought to the judiciary to demand the prosecution of the perpetrator.
The Public Prosecutor praised the efforts of the members, and urged them to do more, in line with the size of the responsibility entrusted to them, directing the need to address the legal positions of all arrested persons, before the end of the year 2021; and final judicial decisions on the matter were concluded before the end of March 2022.
The number of crimes that the Deterrence Agency to Combat Organized Crime and Terrorism initiated procedures for inference against its perpetrators reached (2845), the Public Prosecution began investigating during the aforementioned period, and the most prominent crimes in terms of their gravity were (296) murder cases, and (80) cases belonging to the The banned state organization, (179) cases of kidnapping and seizure of freedom, (701) cases of embezzlement and illegal gain, and (388) cases of possession and trafficking in narcotics, psychotropic substances and alcohol.
Judgments were issued in a number of cases brought against the perpetrators of the aforementioned acts, the most prominent of which are the reducing the punishment in 9 cases, the death sentence in 12 cases, life imprisonment in 3 cases, and the sentence of imprisonment from 3 to 10 years in 86 cases. It should be noted that the number of those released during the aforementioned period exceeded 2150 people.
