A French-Italian meeting precedes the start of the international conference on Libya in Paris today, Friday.

Paris, November 12, 2021 (LANA) - French President Emmanuel Macron is scheduled to receive on Friday the Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi at the Elysee Palace.

According to the French presidency, the bilateral meeting will precede the launch of the international conference on Libya in the capital, Paris. According to the Italian agency (AKI).

    France had announced earlier that the conference would be held in order to "give the final international momentum required to support the holding of the Libyan elections at the end of the year, and to contribute in establishing suitable conditions to hold the elections and respecting their results."

It had indicated that “it will be organized in close cooperation with the United Nations and will be co-chaired by France, Italy and Germany,” according to “a broad formula that includes the countries neighboring Libya for the first time, the Libyan transitional authorities and heads of state and government of countries that were invited to the two previous Berlin conferences, and it will “adopt the Libyan plan, that aims to withdraw foreign forces and foreign mercenaries from Libyan territory and will accompany its implementation, in order to end foreign interference.
