Italian Foreign Minister warns against holding elections in Libya.

Rome, September 25, 2021 (LANA) - Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio warned, Friday, that the failure to hold elections in Libya would generate instability and would increase the chances of exacerbating the terrorism and migration crises.

Di Maio said in statements carried by the Italian news agency AKI that the situation on the ground in Libya is not excellent, adding that the international community is fully aware that the Libyans want elections.

Yesterday, Di Maio met United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Gutierrez in New York, during which they discussed, among other things, the situation in Afghanistan and Libya.

It is noteworthy that Foreign Minister Di Maio stressed, months ago, the European Union's support for the Libyan authorities in their efforts to achieve stability and reconstruction, as well as national reconciliation, considering that a stable political framework is in fact a prerequisite; To create a broader partnership with Libya.
