Borrel Reiterates EU Support for Government of National Unity.

Tripoli, 8 September 2021(Lana) EU High Representative of Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrel has reiterated EU support for holding elections in Libya on set time Dec. 24, 2021, which coincides with Libyan Independence Day.

In a joint press conference with the Foreign Minister Najla Al Mangoush, Borrel who arrived earlier on a visit to Libya, said ‘we are pleased with what Libya has achieved , the ceasefire, and unification of state institutions as a step towards the Dec. 24 elections. He said the EU was prepared to offer assistance to various Libyan institutions particularly the Election Commission and the Military unification initiative.

He renewed a demand for withdrawal of all foreign forces from Libyan territory, saying the EU would offer support for Libyan bodies to reform the security sector, unify the Military and would back up the joint force for securing the coastal highway.
