Di Maio: We Pay Attention to Situation in Libya and Coast Guard Activities.
Pulbished on:Rome, 14 July 2021(Lana) Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio said he would visit Libya in the coming weeks, affirming the attention the Government is giving to Libya and Coast Guard activities in the Mediterranean waters.
In remarks in the Italian Senate Di Maio said ‘enhancing Libyan authorities’ capabilities to carry out search and rescue operations in the area of their responsibility is one of the Government lines.’
‘All our initiatives to support the Libyan authorities in the area of migration are dictated by the basic principle of protecting migrants and refugees in the country, Di Maio said, indicating that rescue operations were part of the initiatives aimed creating a more viable administration that respects international standards of flow of irregular migration by the Libyan authorities and combating trafficking.
