On the sidelines of the G-20 foreign ministers' summit in the Italian city of Matera, Algeria confirms its intention to reopen its border crossings with Libya.

   Algeria, July 1, 2021 (LANA) - The Algerian Foreign Minister, Sabri Boukadoum, affirmed his country's intention to reopen the border crossings with Libya, by reopening one or two border points, referring to the Al-Dabdab-Ghadames crossing, and the crossing connecting Djanet in Algeria to the city of Ghat.

In a press statement on the sidelines of the G20 foreign ministers' summit, held yesterday in Matera, Italy, Boukadoum explained that Algeria's closure of its borders with Libya came due to the state of emergency caused by the outbreak of the Corona pandemic.

        In response to a question about the Algerian-Italian cooperation in the Libyan file, Boukadoum stated that he held regular talks with his Italian counterpart, Luigi Di Maio, stressing that a “common understanding and consensus was reached on many issues.”

With regard to the Berlin 2 conference, the Algerian minister confirmed his country's work within the framework of its outputs, explaining that no meetings were held on the sidelines; But they took the initiative to meet with what he described as colleagues from Italy and Libya's neighboring countries, noting that they had regular talks.

It is noteworthy that a high-level Algerian delegation, which included government officials from the Ministry of Interior, Foreign Affairs, Trade, Public Works, Transport, Customs and Civil Protection, recently visited the Al-Dibdab-Ghadames crossing; To find out the latest logistical and technical preparations for reopening the crossing.
