America calls on the members of the Libyan political dialogue forum to work to reach a consensus on the constitutional basis necessary for holding the elections.
Pulbished on:Washington, July 1, 2021 (LANA) - The United States called on the members of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum to work with the United Nations Support Mission in Libya to reach consensus on the constitutional basis necessary for holding the elections, stressing that the upcoming December elections “are the best path for a legitimately elected government.”
The US call came from its Special Envoy and Ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, in a tweet posted by the US embassy's account on Twitter on Wednesday, saying, "We strongly urge the members of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum to work with the United Nations Support Mission in Libya to reach a consensus on the basis Constitutional law needed to hold national elections in December.
Norland stated that opinion polls conducted by the US Agency for International Development "USAID" indicated that "the desire of Libyans to elect their next government is truly national."
Norland stressed, in a second tweet published by the US Embassy, that “the December elections are the best path for a legitimately elected, accountable government as a means to ensure stability, prosperity, and the provision of public services for the welfare of Libyans.”
