International Follow-up Committee on Libya Calls on House of Representatives to Clarify Constitutional Basis for Elections.

 Tripoli, 4 June 2021(Lana) A statement issued by the International Follow-up Committee on Libya on 2 June 2021 called on the House of Representatives to approve the state budget, indicating that lack of budget stalls Government effort to better living conditions for Libyan citizens.

The Committee urged the House to clarify the constitutional basis for the elections and to enact the necessary electoral legislation, and to create the proper conditions for participation of women in the democratic transition process and national reconciliation.

The Committee welcomed the interim Presidency Council and the interim Government of National Unity charged with leading the country up to national parliamentary and presidential elections on 24 December 2021.

‘We urge domestic and external parties to take practical steps to start the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement, including through the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libya without delay. It said.
