Di Maio: Italian General Consulate in Benghazi to be Re-activated Soon and Honorary Consulate to be Opened in Sebha.

Rome, 31 May 2021(Lana) Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio affirmed that the Government of National Unity is today an interlocutor representing whole of Libya and with which we can plan for future investments throughout the Libyan territories.

Di Maio was speaking at the Italian-Libyan Business Forum in presence of Head of GNU Government Abdul Hamid Al Dbeiba who is on a visit to Italy.

‘We never let down Libya, our embassy was open in Tripoli for work at the most difficult times, and we are committed to scale up Italian institutional presence in Libya through activation of our consulate in Benghazi, and to open an honorary consulate in Sebha, Di maio said adding that ‘in the coming months we will open a promotion office for Italian companies and a cultural section at the Embassy.’

Di Maio was quoted as saying “Italian businessmen now have the opportunity to build distinguished interactions with the Government of National Unity, and our Government with its best production forces, looks forward to be the champion of Libya’s reconstruction process. Italy will put the best of its industrial capabilities to serve Libya, he said.

However, Di Maio said on a visit to Libya, back in March, that Libya was undergoing a crucial shift to political stability process and the path to peace and stability has enjoyed a new push, in reference to the formation of the Government of National Unity.
