Elders and Prominent Figures in Morzug Call on Presidency Council and Government to Secure Borders with Chad.

Tripoli, 26 April 2021(Lana) Elders and prominent figures of the southern Libyan region of Morzug have called on the Presidency Council and the Government of National Unity to promptly act to secure the southern borders with Chad, which is witnessing tension since Tuesday last week, following the killing of its President Idris Deby in clashes with rebels in the north and the fleeing of thousands of Chadians to southern Libyan region.

The Council of Elders in Morzug issued a statement on Sunday in which it said’ we have already warned against an influx of thousands of displaced people from Chad arriving in southern areas of Um Al Araneb and the town of Morzug.’

‘We demand that the Governemnt of National Unity take a quick action to protect the southern border after the recent developments in Chad, the head of the Council Sheikh Suleiman Abu Al Khairat said.
