Tunisia warns of the deteriorating epidemiological situation and proposes to close borders with Libya.
Pulbished on:Tunisia, April 24, 2021 (LANA) - The Scientific Committee to confront the Coronavirus met in Tunisia, today, Saturday, in order to present proposals for the prevention of mutated strains of the Coronavirus in light of the spread of the South African strain in Libya and the Brazilian strain in France.
A member of the Scientific Committee to Confront the Coronavirus, “Aman Allah Al-Masadi,” said in statements carried by the Tunisian Radio ‘Mosaique’, that the scientific committee is in a permanent session, and it will submit its recommendations to the National Authority to confront the Corona virus, regarding ways to prevent the entry of the two strains into Tunisia and limit their appearance.
Al-Masadi suggested closing the land, air and sea borders, or conducting rapid analyzes in transit areas for arrivals at airports and ports even if they became aware of a negative PCR analysis, provided that every person whose positive analysis is to be placed in compulsory quarantine.
He acknowledged the difficulty of implementing the second proposal, which requires setting up a complete system for expatriates, which requires preparation in advance and the provision of the necessary analysis and human resources.
Al-Masadi warned of the development of the epidemiological situation, which he described as very dangerous, especially in light of the large numbers of people infected with Covid-19 arriving in hospitals, as well as those residing in the country to receive treatment, which causes the health system to be overstretched.
