Tripoli, March 31, 2021 (LANA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Najla Al-Manqoush stressed the importance of returning the Chinese embassy to practice its work from the capital, Tripoli, and the opening of a Chinese consulate in Benghazi after the improvement of security conditions and the formation of a national unity government.

This came during her meeting today, Wednesday, with the Chargé d'Affairs of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China, accredited to the State of Libya, "Wang Chimin."

Al-Manqoush added that the embassy’s return would pave the way for the return of Chinese companies to complete their stalled work in the cities of Benghazi and Tripoli and contribute to the reconstruction of Libya.

Al-Manqoush highlighted the importance of China and its global role, and its connection with close friendship and cooperation relations with the State of Libya, and its implementation of huge projects in the fields of infrastructure, transportation and communications.

For his part, the Chinese Chargé d'Affairs affirmed that his country welcomes the formation of a national unity government, winning it confidence from the House of Representatives, unifying institutions, and beginning a phase of security stability and economic recovery, and that China supports holding the elections as scheduled at the end of this year.

He added that China will study the return of the embassy to Tripoli soon, stressing that Chinese companies are preparing to return to Libya, noting the importance of continuing mutual support in international forums between China and the state of Libya.

The meeting dealt with ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and holding meetings of the Political Consultation Committee and the Joint Committee in the near future, as well as Libya's role in the framework of the Arab-China-Africa Cooperation Forum and China's support for the African Union's demand to reform the United Nations Security Council and obtain a permanent seat.
