Al-Sunni discusses with ambassadors of the Security Council permanent members the importance of issuing a decision by the Council to support the will of the Libyans.

New York, March 20, 2021 (LANA) - Libya's representative to the United Nations, ambassador Taher Al-Sunni, held during the past two days a series of dialogue meetings with a number of ambassadors of the security council permanent members, as part of the continuous consultation between the Libyan mission in New York and these five countries focused on the last developments in the Libyan affair, before the Security Council session.

According to the permanent mission page, these meetings with representatives of China, the United Kingdom, the Russian Federation and France come before the Security Council session on the 24th of this month to listen to the briefing of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General, Jan Kubis, as well as the report of the international sanctions committee concerning Libya.

According to the page, delegates from the member states of the Council welcomed the selection of the new executive authority represented by the Presidency Council and the Government of National Unity. As well as importance of the international community’s support for the roadmap emanating from the Forum for political dialogue in Tunisia leading to the elections to be held on 24th of December this year and work to strengthen the ceasefire and the exit of all mercenaries and foreign forces from all parts of the country.

The discussions also touched on the importance of issuing a Security Council resolution to support the will of the Libyans, and the commitment of all parties at home and abroad to the outcomes of the Libyan political dialogue.
