E U: IRINI has achieved results in monitoring violations of the UN embargo on Libya.

Rome, March 19, 2021 (LANA) - The High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy in the European Union, Josep Borrell, confirmed that the European Mission of IRINI has achieved "tangible results" in monitoring violations of the United Nations embargo on Libya, which contributed to the "positive steps" achieved by the Libyans to form a new national unity government.

Borrell said during a press conference at the headquarters of the European mission led by Italy in Rome: “Today we celebrate the one-year anniversary of the start of the operation: It was and still is a difficult task,” explaining that IRINI has achieved tangible results despite the new Corona virus”, according to what was reported by the Italian Nova agency.

Borrell added: "We monitored 25 ports, 15 airports and airstrips, and 200 flights suspected of transporting military shipments to Libya."

Borrell confirmed that this information was transmitted to the Libya experts group through more than 20 confidential reports, indicating that two days ago the expert team published its final report and acknowledged support for the IRINI process.
