US-European statement welcomes the national unity government and affirming its confidence in it.

Tripoli, March 12, 2021 (LANA) - The United States, France, Germany, Italy and Britain welcomed the parliament's confidence in the new government headed by Abdel Hamid Dbaiba.

This came in a joint statement of the five countries, issued by the US State Department, on Thursday, in which they welcomed the recent developments in the Libyan arena.

The joint statement emphasized the ability of the Libyan people to reunify the country, also expressing its thanks to all the actors who contributed to the vote of confidence.

"The vote of confidence was a vital step towards unifying Libyan institutions and finding a political solution to the crisis in the country, and we will continue with our partners to support the Libyan people and the efforts of the United Nations with our partners through the Berlin process," the statement added.

The statement expressed appreciation for “the statement issued by the President of the Presidential Council of the Government of National Accord,” Fayez al-Sarraj, welcoming the vote of the House of Representatives and expressing readiness to hand over power.

The US-European statement also stressed the need for the full implementation of the ceasefire resolution reached on October 23, 2020.

The statement also indicated the importance of the withdrawal of all foreign fighters and mercenaries from the Libyan territories, expressing its appreciation for the efforts of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya.
