Italian Foreign Ministry expresses willingness to cooperate with the new national unity government in Libya.

Rome, 10 March, 2021 (Lana) - The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs described granting confidence to the Government of National Unity in Libya as an important and encouraging step for the process of returning to normalcy and institutional transition towards the unity of Libya.

This came in a statement issued by the ministry, through which it welcomed the granting of confidence to the national unity government led by Prime Minister Abdul Hamid al-Dabaiba.

 In its statement, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the Libyans showed great will and determination to overcome differences through dialogue.

The vast majority of the Libyan parliament’s confidence in the government of national unity is further evidence of this renewed sense of unity.

The ministry expressed its thanks for the tireless efforts of the United Nations and the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General, "Jan Kubis", to achieve peace and stability in Libya.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Italy's readiness to cooperate with and support the unified and temporary executive authority in Libya, in the same line of path set by the Berlin process, in the next stages of the institutional transition and in pursuit of priority goals, such as holding elections on December 24, 2021 and the real implementation of the ceasefire agreement, Starting with the complete withdrawal of all foreign fighters and mercenaries from the country, the launch of the national reconciliation process and the provision of basic services to the Libyan people.
