UN Envoy Discuss With Egyptian and Regional Officials and Libyan Parties Developments in Libya.

Tripoli, 9 March 2021(Lana) The Head of UN Support Mission in Libya Jan Kupis held, during a visit to Cairo from 6-8 March, several meetings with Egyptian officials including the Foreign Minister and the Secretary General of the League of Arab States.

According to UNSMIL official page Kupis discussed with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri latest developments in Libya and progress made on the security, military, and economic tracks.

Kupis and Shukri have agreed to accelerate the implementation of the ceasefire including withdrawal of foreign forces as well as respect of the UN imposed arms embargo implementation of the roadmap which calls for an interim executive authority and conducting of national elections on Dec.24, 2021.

In the separate meeting with the Head of Intelligence, Kupis discussed security and political developments in Libya.

Kupis has also a meeting with the Head of the League of Arab States Ahmed Abu Al Ghaith,. They discussed the roadmap and the ceasefire adopted by the political dialogue Forum as well as cooperation between the UN and the League of Arab States.
