Tunisian president, during his meeting with the UN envoy to Libya, confirms his support for a political solution in Libya.
Pulbished on:Tunis,15 February, 2021 (Lana) - Tunisian President ‘Kais Saeed’ met, Monday, at the Carthage Palace in Tunis, the UN envoy to Libya, Jan Kubis. A statement published by the Tunisian presidency quoted President Kais Saeed after the meeting as saying that "Libya is on the verge of a new phase in its history, following recent political agreements and the embarking of the path of transition from temporary international legitimacy to permanent internal legitimacy."
The Tunisian president expressed his country's openness and willingness to put all its capabilities to contribute to the success of this stage, based on the ties that unite the Tunisian and Libyan peoples, stressing that the success of the United Nations mission in Libya is a success for Libya, Tunisia and the entire region.
For his part, the UN envoy expressed the mission's gratitude for the support provided by Tunisia to Libya, stressing his readiness to continue consultations and coordination with Tunisia, to reach a final political solution to the current crisis in a way that preserves the unity and stability of Libya. Kubis also thanked Tunisia, a non-permanent member of the Security Council, for its support for the work of the United Nations in Libya, expressing hope for further strengthening of this cooperation.
